The Ambleside and District Choral Society is one of the leading choirs in South Cumbria and the Lake District with members coming from as far away as Keswick in the north of the county and Kendal in the south but the majority are from the Ambleside, Windermere, Grasmere, Hawkshead and Coniston area. We are a very friendly choir whose members really enjoy singing and we are always very keen for new members to join us.

Since September 2007 our musical director has been John Cooper Green who for many years was Director of Music at Stowe School and conductor of the Aldeburgh Chamber Choir. Under his direction the number in the choir has increased considerably and in addition to the usual choral repertoire we have sung new and exciting works by living composers.

We normally perform two major concerts in the year, one in December and the other in May and take a break during the summer months of June, July and August.

There is a modest fee for singing with the choir which can either be paid annually or at the beginning of each term.

Joining the Choir
New members, of any voices, are welcome to join the choir at any stage during the rehearsal period. Experienced singers as well as those who are new to singing in a choir are very welcome and there is no audition. Those who may be interested are very welcome to come along for a trial period to see if they enjoy singing with the choir. You can either just turn up at the Kelsick Centre in Ambleside on a Monday evening or if you wish contact either the secretary or director. You will be sure of a very warm welcome from all the choir.
